Happy Holidays!
The month of December in Mexico is filled with Christmas and holiday parties and social events. Christmas is an important holiday season with very strong traditions and is celebrated in most private and government offices.
The most popular tradition during this season is the posada party which is mainly celebrated the nine days leading up to Christmas day. “Posada” in Spanish means lodging or shelter. The posada has become another reason for family and friends to get together and celebrate with lots of food and drinks. It is a social celebration and for many also a religious one. For many families in La Paz the days leading up to xmas, the 16th until the 24th, non-stop posadas are the norm. Posadas are often celebrated among schools, church groups, places of work and with family and friends. December is usually a busy time of the year in La Paz besides the posadas. Banks will be closed on December 25th as well most businesses although large grocery stores like CCC, Ley or Soriana are open with reduced hours.
