Street scenes La Paz 21.5.2007

From the pavilion on the MaleconDoing some walking around this morning in La Paz Centro and along the Malecon. It is quite "nippy" the past few days in the mornings until 11:00 a.m. or so… At least for someone that's used to the nice warm weather all the time… The city is buzzing as usual at this time with people doing their daily chores and shopping. Looking across the bay one can see the 2 construction cranes erected at the site of Paraiso del Mar, a golf course community with condos and homes for sale. It's a hype to hear everywhere how this and other developments will boost the city and attract even more developers for the La Paz real estate market. I guess it will be good for the economy - we just hope it does not destroy the charm of the city. It will show in a few years…

  1. More images from today’s walk.
Sea Turtle sculpture below the big Mural
The good guys from the tourist police, easy to recognize by their white uniforms. They supposedly speak some English and patrol mainly along the Malecon (..if they don’t have a sip of cafe and a donut)
White uniformed La Paz tourist police officers
One of the more popular “watering holes in La Paz, the famous Carlos and Charlie’s
Malecon with Vista Coral in background
Soon those cranes will be replaced by Condo buildings…. :-(
    Looking in the direction Palmira
Another piece of the Malecon in La Paz
Oaxaca stands in the front of the cathedral
An old school bus or ambulance, a piece of plastic tarp and the food stand is operating
Who needs a bodyshop?? Some tape and plastic do it also
Another of the new developments, the Grand Baja Hotel & Spa
    Downhill from the cathedral
    Looking towards Centro from pavilion
