Vonage in La Paz

Paceno By Paceno • Feb 6th, 2008 • Category: Mexico - La Paz News:

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is simply the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks. The Internet Protocol (IP) was originally designed for data networking. The success of IP in becoming a world standard for data networking has led to its adaption to voice networking. VoIP has become popular largely because of the cost advantages to consumers over traditional telepone networks. Most Americans pay a flat monthly fee for local telephone calls and a per-minute charge for long-distance calls. VoIP calls can be placed across the Internet. Most Internet connections are charged using a flat monthly fee structure. For International calling, the monetary savings to the consumer from switching to VoIP technology can be enormous.

1 Free Month Great Offer

Now you? ?!”re asking: what the #@*%$ is that here? Isn? ?!”t this supposed to be a La Paz website and not some tech page. That’s correct but if you read the last sentence:….”enormous + savings” and you? ?!”ll understand. We thought we? ?!”d pass that on to you. We? ?!”ve been using several Vonage phones for years and except for a few weeks in 2005, when the almighty TelMex put some DNS filters in it has been working flawless. And the savings for us are huge. We talk daily with the USA and CAN - there are no limitations within those countries minutes or time wise.. So you could hang 24/7 on the phone talking to relatives in USA ( and several selected countries in Europe). With that Vonage line we also get a number in the USA. You can choose what area code you want from a wide selection, That way you can make it for your contact in USA or CAN even more easy to stay in touch - it’s just a local call for them!!

Vonage is just a click away as you can see with banner… ;-), all you actually need on hardware is a VoIP phone adapter. It’s widely available in the USA and most likely here in Mexico also. The guy from dat.com here in La Paz is checking at the moment if he can get it from the Linksys distributor. When you have the hardware all you need to do is to go to the Vonage website, sign-up, punch a few numbers in that are on your modem, pay with a credit card and you are styling!! After about 10 minutes you can call away……..
there are of course alternatives out there and we did try most of them - nothing comes close to our experience with Vonage here in La Paz and the southern Baja. We know that quite a large amount of “gringos” use it already - so , what’s keeping you from signing up today and start saving.
